Philosophy
Golf is a unique game. Smart Play, calm nerves and the ability to execute a variety of shots are necessary to succeed. Further, golf is played on distinct or even peculiar playing fields. Weather, topography, vegetation and design can all determine the challenge, pace and enjoyment of play.
Golf hold’s a special place in our culture. It is a gentleman’s sport with a long a proud history. It provides the participant with a reflective outlet in an ever-demanding society. As golf course architects, it is our charge to gauge the challenge of the design with the requirements of the golfer and the resources of the site.
As the game and the industry evolve, golf course architecture must respond with more sustainable and enjoyable landscapes attractive to an expanding and demanding golf clientele. Martin Design Partnership, Ltd. professes a philosophy of playable and option-filled, maintainable golf course design. A golfer that is brutalized for a majority of the holes will not return. Conversely, a golf course that is too easy will not capture the imagination of the avid golfer.
We seek to create golf courses that challenge and stimulate each and every golfer that visits. Our courses are: economically sensible and environmentally sensitive; considerate of the course maturation; efficient in the construction and maintenance requirements; and most importantly, appealing to the intended golf market
We are, therefore, stewards of the environment and caretakers of golf. As golf course architects, we are privileged to offer services that will be recognized as classic tests of golf for generations to come.
Approach
Martin Design takes a unique approach to design. We see golf course architecture as an opportunity to establish a unique interaction between man and the natural environment while solving cultural, environmental or engineering requirements. Working closely with the Owner and industry resources, Martin Design can elicit solutions from challenges.
We look to enhance the project requirements with golf features, often integrating wetlands, stormwater ponds or bio-engineering into the golf course plan details to satisfy engineering environmental needs simultaneously. Our ability to seamlessly integrate multiple project needs can make the development process more feasible, sustainable and ultimately more successful. This is our approach – use golf to solve the most pressing environmental, recreational and economic issues of our day.
